Budding gardeners are once again invited to enter the town's Chesterfield in Bloom competition.
The race is on to find the Borough’s very best front and back gardens, allotments, containers and hanging baskets. Each year residents, schools and businesses enter in the hope of clinching one of the 14 award categories for recognition of their gardening skills.
The competition, organised by Chesterfield Borough Council, has also introduced a special additional category for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. People are invited to submit a flowerbed design and the winning design will be used in a flowerbed at Queen’s Park this summer. The competition is open to all age ranges and the winner will receive a cheque for £200.
Cllr Chris Ludlow, Executive Member for the Environment at the Council said: "The ‘in bloom’ competition is always very popular and hotly contested so we’re looking forward to seeing some great gardens this year. We’re particularly looking forward to seeing some terrific designs for the Diamond Jubilee flowerbed at Queen’s Park and will be showing this off to the East Midlands in Bloom judges when they inspect the town in July.”
David Seton, Chief Executive at Ringwood Hall Hotel said: "Chesterfield in Bloom is a great competition because it rewards and encourages people to make improvements to our local environment. We’re delighted to be the main sponsor again in 2012 and wish all the entrants the best of luck.”
Andy Moreton, from Drainage 2000, sponsor of the Diamond Jubilee Flowerbed competition said: "I’m sure people will be inspired to come up with some great designs for the flowerbed and will take great pride in seeing their winning design being planted at Queen’s Park.”
Entry forms for the Chesterfield in Bloom and Diamond Jubilee Flowerbed competitions can be downloaded from the Council’s website (www.chesterfield.gov.uk) or you can pick up a copy from the Town Hall or Tourist Information Centre.
Deadline for entries to Chesterfield in Bloom is 15 June and for the Diamond Jubilee Flowerbed competition it’s 25 May.
