Deaths on Derbyshire's roads on the up

Wednesday, July 18th 2012 15:00

The number of deaths on the county's roads has risen by 2.2% over the last year.

It mirrors the figures nationally which have shown a rise for the first time since 2003.

The latest statistics across the country show the number of people who have died on the roads in England as more than 1,900 making it the biggest cause of death amongst young adults aged 16 to 24.

Locally 400 people died last year which was a rise, but the number of people injured dropped to 4,000

MP's in the Transport Office have said it's a wake-up call and are looking for stronger leadership on road safety in the future.
