Derbyshire's Students to Stay Longer in School

Monday, July 2nd 2012 01:00

By 2015 pupils in Derbyshire will have to stay in education until their 18th birthday.

The "Up to 18" campaign has been launched by the government to give young people more opportunity to gain skills and qualifications for future job opportunities.

In line with the changes 4 options are available to young people who fall into the category:

  • Full time education at 6th form or college.
  • An apprenticeship.
  • Foundation learning.
  • Part time education or training if they work or volunteer for more than 20 hours a week.

The council hopes the movement will reduce the numbers of people under 25 claiming job seekers' allowance in the county.
