Kids join 'Inspire Diversity' festival in Derbyshire

Friday, October 12th 2012 01:00

Over the next few weeks 23 Derbyshire schools will be involved in a festival called 'Inspire Diversity'.

Children from Derbyshire will be meeting over the next few weeks to learn about and celebrate the different races and cultures across the county.

As part of the 'Inspire Diversity' festival, children are encouraged to be open minded about other people's beliefs, customs and cultures.

It also hopes to promote the message to parents and carers that the cultural diversity of the region makes a positive contribution to the community.

The festival hopes to develop a sense of pride in the local area and to help children overcome barriers so they, their parents and the local community are able to celebrate the differences and diversity that are present in Derbyshire.

There will be a closing event at the Proact Stadium on 14th November where children will learn about racism in sport by interviewing players and carrying out 'diversity' activities.
