Plans to restrict off-road vehicles from Peak District green lane causes row

Tuesday, September 4th 2012 01:00

The row over the use of the Peak District's green lanes has been stirred again, with plans being discussed to restrict access further for vehicles.

Of the 9,500 rights of way in Derbyshire 21 are open to all traffic.

Countryside campaigners fear that if off-roaders continue to use the lanes the wear and tear will make them un-useable for walkers.

They are now pushing to close two more unsurfaced roads to vehicles, which include Long Causeway and Roych Clough, a move which has angered the Trail Riders Fellowship.

Another public consultation is expected in the future.
