Redfern up for County Championship Breakthrough Player Award

A Derbyshire cricketer's been short-listed for the County Championship Breakthrough Player Award.

Batsman Dan Redfern is in the running for the award against six other players.

Redfern's competition includes Yorkshire's Gary Ballance and Joe Root, Surrey fast bowler Stuart Meaker, Lancashire spin bowler Simon Kerrigan and Kent all rounder Matt Coles.

The panel selected the shortlist of six players for the award based on their performances in the LV= County Championship, so far this season.

Commenting on the new award, LV='s head of sponsorship, Claire Jeromson said: "We wanted this award to identify and champion the best young talent that is playing in the LV= Championship.  The competition continues to be the testing ground for the next crop of England players and with the standard of the domestic games improving each season, it is important to recognise these promising young players."

The winner will be announced on Wednesday 5th September.
