The family of a man missing in the English Channel after the boat he was on sank have thanked search crews for their efforts.
Jeffrey Clare, 66, was in a tugboat that sank after getting into trouble around six miles off the coast of France on Monday, April 23.
A distress call was received by the coastguard at around 8.40am and a search got underway.
Two other crew members were rescued but Mr Clare, of Draycott, Derby is still missing.
His wife, Val Clare, has released this statement.
Mrs Clare said: "The tragic sinking of the vessel Aquarius has been a great shock to the crew and families involved. We are very grateful for all efforts made during the rescue and subsequent search for the missing crew member.
"We have been informed that the search for Jeff has been called off and we would like to thank everyone involved.
"The family would now appreciate privacy in order to come to terms with our loss.”
Specially trained family liaison officers are working with the family to keep them informed and Derbyshire police officers continue to liaise with the French authorities.
