Two Derbyshire Hospitals are without specialist diabetes footcare teams

Tuesday, July 31st 2012 01:00

A charity says thousands of people are at risk of having their feet amputated, because many hospitals are without specialist diabetes teams, including two Derbyshire hospitals.

Diabetes UK says 80 of the 100 amputation cases linked to the condition every week in the UK could be avoided.

The organisation says 84 hospitals in England and Wales are without footcare teams, that can prevent feet amputations as a result of the condition.

According to Diabetes UK, hospitals that don't have a multi-disciplinary footcare team include Chesterfield Royal and Bassetlaw District General Hospital.
