Thursday, October 4th 2012 01:00

Residents are calling for safety measures on a road where two teenagers died near Ashover.

The 16-year-old's, died after a collision at the junction of Birkin Lane and the A632 Matlock Road.

Connor Short, from Ashover, was treated for serious injuries but died in  Chesterfield  Royal  Hospital shortly after the collision on Thursday, September 20.

Liam Chapman, from Clay Cross, was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre following the collision suffering serious injuries. He died in hospital on Wednesday, September 26.

Both victims were passengers in a Peugeot 206 that was involved in a crash with a Vauxhall Corsa.

Residents Margaret Renshaw and Becky Carline want action to be taken to slow traffic down on the road known as 'The flying Mile'.

They are organising a petition for locals to sign, in the hope it will lead to the installation of traffic lights or a roundabout.

Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership confirmed that there have been 63 injuries on the A632 between Belond Lane and Slack Lane in the past ten years.

If your interested in getting involved in the campaign you can contact Margaret Renshaw on 01246 591 354.
